Every January the Sauk Co. chapter of Wisconsin Right to Life commemorates the anniversary of the Roe v Wade decision which legalized abortion in America.

Even though the weather was bitter (4 degrees F) this year, a few of us still showed up to march around the Baraboo Courthouse in silent prayer.

In preparation for the march, Pastor McShaffrey delivered the following meditation:

“Whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.  But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death.” (Proverbs 8:35-36)

“All they that hate me love death.” By saying this, the Lord our God exposes the real reason abortion exists in America and on this point I perceive that many (even many professing Christians) are confused.

Abortion does not exist because of insufficient laws (as if all we need to do is amend the constitution so that it better defines what it means to be a person).

Abortion does not exist because of unjust and activist judges (as if all we needed to do is have better rulings on the laws that already exist).

Abortion does not exist because of a lack of education (as if all we have to do is to get better textbooks and teachers into the public schools).

Abortion does not exist because of a lack of poor role-models (as if all we have to do is find more family-friendly actors and athletes to put on television).

Abortion does not exist because of a lack of technology (as if all we have to do to do is invent better ultrasound machines so that mothers can see their babies more clearly in the womb).

Abortion does not exist because of insufficient welfare programs (as if all we have to do is increase benefits for single and poverty-stricken women who are pregnant and scared).

NO — Abortion exists because people hate God and as we heard from God’s word: When people hate God, they inevitably end up loving death.

That is why we are NOT here today to protest or to be political. We are rather here to pray: That God would have mercy upon all those who are wronging their own souls — who hate God — and who therefore love death.

O, may God hear our prayers as we walk around this courthouse and may he send us a quick answer for the sake of Christ — his kingdom – our country — and all those precious little ones for whom he shed his own precious blood.  Amen.
