Dear Restless Daughters

Of The Covenant

Dear restless daughters of the covenant,

No one can remain “Daddy’s little girl” forever (except in Daddy’s mind!). Girls grow up and one of the greatest joys of parenthood is watching them become the women God created them to be.

Between these two phases of maturity, however, lies a period of time that can feel somewhat awkward (i.e., you feel more like a woman than a girl, but you are still living under your parents’ authority at home).

Feelings of restlessness during this time are completely normal, but you must also guard your heart against discontentment, impatience, and wanderlust.

The world, the flesh, and the devil will tell you otherwise. Their joint testimony will be, “Just leave home as soon as possible! With or without your parents blessing! You have a life to live, so go live it!” Your deceitful and desperately wicked heart will tend to agree.

Before making that weighty of a decision, I would encourage you to engage in a prayerful season of Bible study. Meditate upon (perhaps even memorize) the Bible verses below. They address topics like domestic order, parental authority, and feminine maturity. They also warn of very serious dangers.

Allow these verses to renew your mind, examine your heart, and illumine your path as you begin making plans for the future. If you don’t understand these passages, ask your father to explain. If you don’t agree with them, ask the Holy Spirit to change your mind.

Becoming a woman is part of God’s good plan for your life and the holy scriptures are sufficient to guide you safely into this next stage of maturity.

In brotherly love,

Pastor Christian McShaffrey
